Women's Track & Field Sets Three New School Records at UNF Osprey Challenge
Women have seven Top-5 performances
Jacksonville, Fla. (Apr. 18, 2009) - Nova Southeastern University's women's track and field team broke three program records and had seven Top-5 performances, while the men's track and field team saw one school record fall and had six Top-5 performances as the Sharks competed at the UNF Osprey Challenge on Saturday at Hodges Stadium. For the women, both Tara Haddock (Jr., Citrus Springs, Fla.) and Krystal Porter (Jr., Raytown, Mo.) broke their own school records in the 800 and 5,000 meters, respectively. Haddock placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.16, which was 0.52 faster than her previous school record time set at last year's South Region Championships. Meanwhile, Porter was third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:20.87, breaking her previous school record by 11.17 seconds.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Kyley Jorgensen (Fr., Wellington, Fla.), Roberta Fisher (Fr., Orlando, Fla.), Christiana Orr (Fr., Orlando, Fla.) and Stacyann Daley (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) also set a new program record, placing third and crossing the finish line in a time of 48.13.
Also on the track, Jorgensen and Fisher were fourth and fifth in the 100 meters, respectively. Jorgensen clocked 12.36, while Fisher ran 12.39.
In the field, Erin Zampell (Fr., Naples, Fla.) had a pair of Top-5 showings. She was third in the shot put with a throw of 38'6" (11.73m). Zampell was fourth in the javelin with a mark of 108'0" (32.93m).
For the men, Bernard Pierre (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) set a new school record in the shot put. Pierre, who placed second in the event, launched a 43'5" (13.23m) throw, which was 1'0.75" (0.32m) further than his previous record mark.
Also in the field, Pierre was fifth in the discus with a throw of 119'11" (36.55m). John Crute (Jr., Miami, Fla.) placed third in the javelin, tossing 158'5" (48.28m).
On the track, Michael Wilson (Sr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) placed third in both the 100 and 200 meters. He raced 10.86 in the 100 meters and then 21.68 in the 200 meters. Carlos Rojas (So., Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico) was fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:27.15.
NSU will have several weeks before its next meet when the Sharks take part in the UCF Twilight on Sunday, May 10.
