athletic pic Southern Pines, N.C. (Oct. 27, 2009) Two-time NCAA Division II National Player of the Year Sandra Changkija (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) led the Nova Southeastern University women's golf team to a second place finish at the Ross Resorts Invitational, hosted by Rollins College at Mid Pines.

Host Rollins (300-301-296-897) won the event, defeating the Sharks (304-298-302-904) by seven strokes. Eastern Michigan (917) came in third place while Georgetown (934) and Akron (935) were also in the top five. Methodist (949), Indiana State (955), South Dakota (964), Stephen F. Austin (1,009) and Boston (1,036) were also in competition.

The Sharks were led by Chankija (70-69-73), who ran away from the field to record an eight stroke victory from Rollins' Joanna Coe (75-71-74-220). Three-time All-American Maria Garcia-Austt (Sr., Montevideo, Uruguay) finished among the top five by tying for fourth place (76-73-76-225). Freshman Abbey Gittings (Tamworth, England) came in 16th place (79-76-78-233) while sophomore Fredrika Hakansson (Coral Springs, Fla.) came in 22nd place (79-82-75-236) and junior All-American Taylor Collins (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) tied for 24th place (80-80-79-239).

"Coming off of a NCAA National Championship this spring I was curious how our fall season would be," said NSU head coach Kevin Marsh. "Playing the most difficult fall schedule we ever had we went on to win three team tiles and three individual titles in four tournaments. The ladies on this team have high standards and that was shown each day of the fall season. Rollins had a great fall season winning three times also and will be the team to beat during the post-season. Knowing that will make us work harder than ever all the way thru May."

The Ross Resorts Invitational was the final tournament on the Sharks fall schedule.
