Sharks One Shot Back After First Day Of Ross Resorts Invitational

Sandra Changkija Leads Field By Seven Strokes

athletic pic Southern Pines, N.C. (Oct. 26, 2009)  The Nova Southeastern University women's golf team stands in second place, just one shot back, at the Ross Resorts Invitational hosted by Rollins College at Mid Pines.

Host Rollins shot scores of 300 and 301 in blustery, overcast conditions for a 36 hole score of 601 strokes. NSU is one shot back with a 602 (304-298) while round one co-leader Eastern Michigan is third with 608 strokes (300-308). Georgetown (622) is fourth while Methodist, the top team in Division III is fifth (624).

Two-time defending NCAA Division II National Player of the Year Sandra Changkija (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) jumped out to a seven stroke lead over the field, opening with a two-under 70 in the morning and following with a three-under 69 in the afternoon for 139 strokes.

Senior All-American Maria Garcia-Austt (Montevideo, Uruguay) stands in fourth place and is just four-over par after two rounds (76-73-149). Freshman Abbey Gittings (Tamworth, England) follows in 14th place, carding a 79 in the first round and a 76 in the second round for a total of 155. Junior All-American Taylor Collins (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) is tied for 31st place (80-80-160) while sophomore Fredrika Hakansson (Coral Springs, Fla.) is tied for 35th place (79-82-161).

The Sharks will look to overtake the lead in the final round on the morning of Tuesday, October 27th.
