Nova Southeastern Maintains Lead at Lady Paladin Invitational
Sharks Hold Four Stroke Lead Over Campbell Heading Into Final Round
GREENVILLE, S.C. Defending NCAA Division II National Champion Nova Southeastern maintained its lead on Saturday at the 38th Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,199-yard Furman University Golf Course. Two-time defending NCAA Division II National Player of the Year Sandra Changkija (75-72=147) fired an even-par 72 to help Nova Southeastern (306-305=611) take sole possession of the lead after two rounds. Campbell (315-300=615) is four strokes back in second place while Furman (320-297=617) trails the Sharks by six strokes after 36 holes. Stetson, East Tennessee State, East Carolina, UNC Greensboro, Kennesaw State, UNC Wilmington and Florida International round out the top 10.
Changkija (Orlando, Fla.) led the Sharks on the second day with her even par round. With her round on Saturday, Changkija propelled herself into the individual lead and holds a two-stoke advantage over Furman's Stefanie Kenoyer. Three-time All-American Maria Garcia-Austt (Montevideo, Uruguay) followed with a three over-par 75 to stand in eighth place among all individuals. All-American Taylor Collins (So., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), freshman Abbey Gittings (Tamworth, England) and junior Fredrika Hakansson (Vero Beach, Fla.) all shot matching five over 77's in the second round. Gittings and Hakansson stand tied for 20th among all individuals.
Saturday's second round, like Friday's 18 holes, was played with wet course conditions and periods of rain throughout the day. With 18 holes remaining, 30 golfers are within nine strokes of the leader and seven teams are within 16 strokes of the tournament leading Sharks.
Sunday's final round is scheduled for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Nova Southeastern, Campbell and Furman will comprise the final five pairings and tee-off of holes 1-3.
