Women's Cross Country 11th at Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic
Tara Haddock leads Sharks
Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (Oct. 10, 2009) - Nova Southeastern University's men's cross country team took fourth place, while the women finished in 11th on Saturday morning at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic. The men totaled 145 points. The women compiled 399 points. In the men's race, Matt Meagher (Sr., Mansfield, Mass.) lead the Sharks with a 21st-place finish as he covered the 8K course in a career-best time of 27:02.40. Agustin Rey (Jr., Coral Springs, Fla.) was 25th with a time of 27:21.00, while Kevin Meagher (Fr., Mansfield, Mass.) ran 27:29.90 and was 31st. Jonathan Junkins (So., Lecanto, Fla.) crossed the finish line in a time of 27:49.00 and was 41st. John Besharat (Jr., Miami, Fla.) was just behind in 44th and finished in a season-best time of 27:51.50. Joe Peña (So., Jacksonville, Fla.) ran 28:48.30 and was 72nd, while Mike Greiner (Fr., Palm Coast, Fla.) was 99th with a time of 29:30.10. Chris Jacob (So., Naples, Fla.) took 124th with a time of 30:33.60, while Ivan Almanza (Fr., Hollywood, Fla.) rounded out the Sharks in 184th with a time of 35:56.50.
Kennesaw State took the team title in the 25-team race. The Owls had 42 points. Andrew Chebii-Singh from Winston-Salem State won the individual crown with a time of 25:22.40
On the women's side, Tara Haddock (Sr., Citrus Springs, Fla.) paced NSU by finishing 33rd. Haddock completed the 5K course in a time of 20:05.80. Krystal Porter (Sr., Raytown, Mo.) raced 20:18.90 and was 39th, while Juliana Tabares (Fr., West Palm Beach, Fla.) was just behind in 42nd-place with a time of 20:23.00. Kristina Williams (Fr., Fort Worth, Texas) ran 22:53.40 and was 156th. Alice Henley (Sr., Plantation, Fla.) took 193rd with a time of 23:54.70. StacyAnn Daley (So., Orlando, Fla.) finished the race in a time of 26:38.60 and was 245th.
Kennesaw State also won the women's team title, totaling 79 points to place first among the 30 teams copeting in the meet. Kennesaw State's Mackenzie Howe won the women's race with a time of 18:07.60.
NSU is back in action in two weeks when the Sharks compete at the 2009 Sunshine State Conference Championships. Hosted by Florida Southern, the 2009 SSC Championships will take place at Sanlan Ranch and Bramble Ridge Golf Course in Lakeland, Fla. The men's 8K race is set to go off at 7:45 a.m., while the women's 6K race is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
