Women's Basketball Drops Exhibition Game at Florida International, 67-50

Sarosi and Marshall lead Sharks with 12 and 10 points, respectively

athletic pic Miami, Fla. (Nov. 6, 2009) - Nova Southeastern University's women's basketball team fell to NCAA Division I Florida International 67-50 in an exhibition game Friday night at the U.S. Century Bank Arena.

NSU got off to a quick start, outscoring Florida International 12-4 through the first media timeout. Stephanie Sarosi (Sr., Mims, Fla.) and LaShawnna Edwards (Sr., North Miami, Fla.) combined for 10 of the Sharks' first 12 points. Edwards got the scoring underway with a jumper at 18:11. Meanwhile, a Sarosi layup at 15:01 put the Sharks up by eight.

However, the Golden Panthers began cut into NSU's lead. After being held scoreless for just over three minutes, Cherisse Buddy recorded Florida International's next six points as NSU held a slim 12-10 lead with 11:58 remaining in the first half. NSU ultimately regained a three-point lead off a Priscilla Perez (Jr., Miami, Fla.) free throw at 9:47, but back-to-back layups from Marquita Adley and Buddy allowed Florida International to go up 16-15 at 8:58.

Florida International built up a six-point 27-21 advantage, before NSU cut the Golden Panthers' lead down to two. Sarosi sank a pair of free throws at 4:12 and then another set of free throws at 3:28. However, Florida International eventually increased its lead to eight points and ultimately took a 37-29 lead into halftime.

An 11-2 Florida International run opened the second half as the Golden Panthers went ahead 48-31 with 15:26 remaining in the game. Florida International got up to a 22-point lead with a Maja Krajacic layup at 6:25. However, NSU fought back and used a 9-0 run to cut the Golden Panthers' lead down to 13. A Lauren Marshall (Jr., Rapid River, Mich.) three-pointer at 6:02 sparked the run. Another trey from Marshall at 4:45 capped off the run as Florida International held a 59-46 lead. Marshall went on to score the Sharks' seven final points of the game, including a pair of free throws at 1:09.

NSU was 32.6 percent from the floor, going 15-for-46. Florida International was 39.4 percent and 28-for-71. The Golden Panthers outrebounded NSU 50-28.

Sarosi led the Sharks with 12 points, while Marshall added in 10. Edwards pulled down a team-best nine boards.

Marquita Adley had a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double. Fanni Hutlassa led Florida International with a game-high 13 points. Monika Bosilj also had 12 points.

The Sharks open the 2009-10 season on Monday, Nov. 16 when they host Benedict. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from The Arena at the Don Taft University Center.
