Women's Basketball Selected Third in SSC Preseason Poll

Sharks garner three first-place vote and 104 points

(Oct. 21, 2009)  Nova Southeastern University's women's basketball team was tabbed third in the annual Sunshine State Conference Preseason Poll, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday. The Sharks amassed 104 points and received three first-place votes in the poll that was voted on by the SSC's women's basketball head coaches and sports information directors.

Tampa, the defending SSC Tournament champion and SSC regular-season co-champion, was the preseason favorite with 121 points and 10 first-place votes. Rollins, who shared the regular-season title with Tampa last year, was second in the poll with 113 points and five first-place votes.

With NSU in third, Florida was selected fourth with 74 points, while Florida Southern was right behind in fifth with 73 points. Eckerd totaled 55 points and was tabbed sixth. Lynn was seventh with 44 points, while Barry totaled 40 points and was eighth. Saint Leo rounded out the poll in ninth with 24 points.

NSU is scheduled to play an exhibition game at Florida International on Friday, Nov. 6 in Miami at 7 p.m. The Sharks open the 2009-10 season on Monday, Nov. 16 against Benedict at The Arena at the Don Taft University Center. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
