NSU Volleyball Wins AVCA Play Of The Week

Sharks Are Now Eligible For The AVCA Play Of The Year Award

athletic pic Lexington, K.Y. (Nov. 4, 2009) The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that the Nova Southeastern University volleyball team is the sixth recipient of the newly created Volleyball Market/AVCA Play of the Week. The Sharks earned the honor after beating out four other semifinalists - University of Hawai'i, University of North Carolina at Asheville, University of South Florida and West Windsor-Plainsboro South High School - during a week-long voting period.

The award-winning play came during Nova Southeastern's road tilt with Sunshine State Conference (SSC) foe Eckerd College on October 23. The 41-second rally is highlighted by a head's up play by NSU middle blocker Carly Perschnick (Fr., Dwight, Ill.). After an Eckerd attack flies over the net, defensive specialist Alison Kalish (Sr., Miami, Fla.) digs the ball. When Perschnick realizes the setter is not going to be able to make it to the ball for the second touch, she sticks her leg out and lightly kicks the ball, which is then sent back over the net to the Tritons' side. Play continues on both sides until NSU is able to shut down an Eckerd attack attempt to earn what would be the final point of the match's first set. The Sharks went on to earn a thrilling 3-2 victory, battling the Tritons to a final fifth set score of 18-16.
