Women's Tennis Continues Action at ITA South Regionals
Paige Lindsley reaches quarterfinals in open singles consolation bracket
Valdosta, Ga. (Sept. 25, 2009) - The Nova Southeastern University women's tennis team completed Day Two of the ITA South Regional Championships on Friday. Much of the Sharks' success on Friday came in the consolation brackets. In the open doubles consolation, Mary Crider (Jr., Georgetown, Texas) and Paige Lindsley (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) won their quarterfinal round en route to advancing to the semifinals. Crider and Lindsley topped West Alabama's Brittney Bowden and Emily Gerding 8-4 in the quarterfinals. However, Crider and LIndsley fell to Florida Tech's Abigail Gerif and Natalia Ramos 8-4 in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, in the open singles third round consolation, Crider, Lindsley, Blake Bauer (Fr., Miami, Fla.) and Federica Longo (Fr., Miami, Fla.) all posted wins in order to move on to Friday's fourth round. Crider downed West Alabama's Katy Shoptaugh 6-3, 6-1. Lindsley defeated West Alabama's Victoria Jones 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (5). Bauer recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win over Gerding. Longo downed Alexis Weinnig of Florida Tech 7-5, 6-2.
In the fourth round, Lindsley had NSU's lone win as she topped Barry's Mei Jing Aug 6-4, 6-0 in order to advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals. Bauer fell 6-0, 6-0 to Barry's Mia Fiocca, while Crider lost 7-5, 6-2 to Rollins' Clarke Tatje. Longo dropped a 6-1, 6-3 match to West Florida's Carmel Gary.
Play continues at the ITA South Regionals on Saturday. The first matches, including Lindsley's consolation quarterfinals match, are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
