Women's Tennis Opens Play at ITA South Regionals
Sharks post an open doubles win and two open singles wins in the Round of 64
Valdosta, Ga. (Sept. 24, 2009) - Nova Southeastern University's women's tennis team got competition underway at the ITA South Regional Championship on Thursday. In the first day of the tournament, the Sharks had a win in the open doubles and two singles victories in the Round of 64. The duo of Daria Egorova (Jr., Obninsle, Russia) and Justine Feaster (So., Escondido, Calif.) advanced to the Round of 16 with an 8-2 win over Saint Leo's Shaena Keefe and Gine Schifano. Egrova and Feaster ultimately fell in the to Valdosta State's Raphaelle Durante and Natali Gumbrecht 8-3 in the Round of 16.
In the Round of 64 in the open singles, both Elisa Leeder (Sr., Eisenhuettenstadt, Germany) and Feaster emerged victorious and will advanced to Friday's Round of 32. Leeder topped Valdosta State's Kristel de Groot 6-2, 6-2. Feaster defeated Barry's Juliet Serabian 6-4, 6-4.
Meanwhile, in the open singles Round 128, Paige Lindsley (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) fell 6-2, 6-0 to West Florida's Taylor Brewster. However, Lindsley rebounded in the consolation second round with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Schifano.
The Sharks continue play at the 2009 ITA South Region Championships on Friday. Play is scheduled to begin at 8:30 with eight of the Round of 32 matches.
