Women's Tennis Concludes Play at Maryland Invitational
Sharks record one double wins and four singles victories on Sunday
College Park, Md. (Sept. 20, 2009) - Nova Southeastern University's women's tennis team registered five wins on the final day of the Maryland Invitational on Sunday at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Sharks emerged with one win during doubles play and four during singles action. "I was able to evaluate the team in competition this weekend," said head coach Michael Coleman. "Although I was not thrilled with the match results, I hope the team realizes what we must accomplish in order to be competitive throughout the year."
Elisa Leeder (Sr., Eisenhuettenstadt, Germany) and Blake Bauer (Fr., Miami, Fla.) had NSU's lone doubles win on Sunday. Leeder and Bauer downed Maryland's Eleonore Paillaud and Lauren Wolman 8-3.
Bauer also picked up a singles victory, defeating George Washington's Michele Style 6-1, 6-7(5), 1-0(3). Also in singles play, Daria Egorova (Jr., Obninsle, Russia) topped Christina Tan from Syracuse. Mary Crider had a 6-2, 6-2 win over Georgetown's Alexandra Landers. Lily Rasmussen beat Howard's Amber Cuff by a score of 6-2, 7-6(4).
NSU continues the fall season at the ITA Fall South Regional Tournament in Valdosta, Ga. The tournament begins on Thursday.
