Colleen O'Connell enters her second year as Sports Information Assistant with Nova Southeastern. For the 2008-09 year, she will be the main contact for women's soccer, women's basketball, tennis, men's and women's cross country and track and field, and rowing. Prior to coming to NSU, O'Connell served a brief stint as Assistant Sports Information Director at UNC Greensboro. She also did year-long internships at Lehigh University (2006-07) and Coastal Carolina (2007-08). While at Lehigh, O'Connell was the contact for six programs, including the men's soccer team that was nationally ranked and reached the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Meanwhile, O'Connell also served as the media contact for six of Coastal Carolina's programs.
Since the fall of 2006, O'Connell has been a free-lance writer for CollegeLAX.us. She has written feature stories on coaches and teams from within the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association and has been responsible for the Onyx/Riddell Lacrosse MCLA Team of the Week releases.
O'Connell got her start in sports information at Virginia Wesleyan College, her alma mater, serving as an intern and a brief stint as an assistant. Also at Virginia Wesleyan, O'Connell was a three-year member of the Marlins' cross country team and was the statistician for the men's lacrosse team for three years. She earned ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-Distrtict III Women's Track/Cross Country First Team honors in 2005, becoming the first athlete in Virginia Wesleyan's cross country history to be named Academic All-District. After graduation, O'Connell attended Florida State University, where she was a student worker in FSU's sports information department and also worked with the men's lacrosse club.
A native of Midlothian, Va., O'Connell graduated from Virginia Wesleyan in May 2005 with her bachelors in communications. She received her masters in physical education with an emphasis in sport management in December, 2006 from Florida State.
