Stephanie Chivers enters her first season with the Sharks after a successful four-year rowing career at the University of Connecticut. As a scholarship rower, Chivers earned academic honors all four years of her collegiate career. Her Husky career culminated in 2006 when, as captain of the UConn squad, she received a Husky Award for Friendship, Leadership and Dedication. In addition to her collegiate career, Chivers comes to NSU with a wealth of coaching experience, serving as Head Sweep and Sculling Coach of the Riverfront Recapture of Hartford, Conn. from 2006 to 2007 as well as assistant men's rowing coach at UConn in 2006. Chivers has also interned with the San Diego State women's rowing squad in 2007 and served as a Graduate Assistant with the Ithaca College women's rowing team before her hiring at NSU. During the course of her rowing career, Chivers has also coached masters and high school programs at Berkshire Rowing and Sculling Society in Pittsfield, Mass. and the San Diego Rowing Club.
In 2007, Chivers graduated from Connecticut with a degree in Kinesiology before completing a Sports Psychology Master's Degree at Ithaca College in 2008.
In 2008, the NSU Women's Rowing team advanced to its fifth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance after winning its second straight Sunshine State Conference title. Gartin's team is the only squad in school history to win back-to-back SSC championships.
