Softball's Donachie and Bergner Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Second-Team All-South Region
Donachie and Bergner among 26 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-South Region honorees
Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (May 10, 2009) - Nova Southeastern University softball's April Donachie (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) and Dana Bergner (Jr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) were selected to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-South Region Second-Team, it was announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Thursday. There were a total of 26 players named to the All-South Region Teams. Donachie, who received All-Sunshine State Conference Second-Team honors last week, was named to first base on the All-South Region Team. She concluded the 2009 season with a .326 batting average and a .997 fielding percentage, committing only one error made in 365 chances. She led the team and the SSC with 35 walks. Additionally, she tied for third in the SSC in triples with six.
Bergner, who was also received All-SSC Second-Team honors last week, was selected as the second-baseman for the All-South Region Second-Team. For the season, Bergner had a .297 clip with 46 hits and 34 RBI. Bergner hit five sacrifice flies, which is seventh in the latest set of NCAA statistics. Her five sacrifice flies was also third in the SSC.
NSU concluded the season with its best record in its NCAA history with a 49-15 mark. Additionally, the Sharks reached the postseason for the first time in its NCAA-era, advancing all the way to the championship game of the NCAA South Regional - 2.
