DH Pete Simon Blasts Two Run Homer In Second Inning

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Mar. 24, 2009)  The no. 10 nationally ranked Nova Southeastern University baseball team dealt visiting Palm Beach Atlantic a 6-4 setback in play at the NSU Baseball Complex on Tuesday evening. The Sharks record is now 25-6 overall while PBA falls to 4-23.

Palm Beach Atlantic scored first with a single run in the top of the first inning off of NSU starter A.J. Hillenbrand (Fr., Rockledge, Fla.), who was making his first collegiate start.

NSU responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly by junior third baseman Rhys Roberts (Parkland, Fla.).

Designated hitter Pete Simon (Sr., Lake Worth, Fla.) put the Sharks up in the second inning, blasting a two run homer over the left field fence. PBA took advantage of two NSU errors to score two runs and tie the game in the fourth inning.

The Sailfish took the lead in the fifth, scoring a run on catcher Keith Clabaugh's RBI single up the middle. Senior second baseman Dexter Butler (Key West, Fla.) knotted the score in the bottom half of the fifth with a RBI single through the left side.

A sacrifice fly to right field by catcher Matt Fisher (Jr., Sunrise, Fla.) gave the Sharks the lead for good in the sixth inning. First baseman Riaan Spanjer-Furstenburg (Jr., Coral Springs, Fla.) came around to score on a passed ball to add an insurance run for the Sharks.

Reliever Zach North (So., Miami, Fla.) earned the win for NSU, pitching two and one-thirds scoreless innings. Closer Sean Albury (So., Nassau, Bahamas) picked up his sixth save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Hillenbrand allowed three earned runs in four and two-thirds innings.

Dale Alberto (Sr., Davie, Fla.) led the Sharks at the plate, going 2-4 with a run scored.

NSU will host Florida Tech in a Sunshine State Conference tilt at 6 pm on Friday, March 27th at the NSU Baseball Complex.
