(Oct. 26, 2009) The Nova Southeastern University men's golf team raced out to the lead on the first day of the Rollins College Invitational after play was delayed due to heavy fog in the morning. Even though conditions were near perfect with warm temperatures and a slight wind under sunny skies in the afternoon, play was suspended due to darkness with 2-4 holes left to play in the second round.

The Sharks (271) led Barry University (282) and St. Edward's by 11 strokes after the completion of the first round. Rollins College (283) and Florida Southern (285) round out the top five.

NSU sophomore Ben Vertz (Coral Springs, Fla.) blistered the course with a seven-under par 65 in the opening round. He trails St. Edward's Brad Moyer (64) by one shot for the tournament lead. Junior Jack Bartlett (Worthing, England) is right behind in fourth place with a five-under par 67. Senior Byron White (Bradenton, Fla.) is in fifth place at four-under par. Bobby Bode (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and Peter Kolosvary (Safety Harbor, Fla.) stand in 17th and 35th place with scores of 71 and 74, respectively.

The players will pick up where they left off at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday and will roll right into the final round.
