NSU Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At John Dallio Memorial
Sharks Competed Against The Elements and Division I Field
LEMONT, Ill. (Sept. 28, 2009) The Nova Southeastern University men's golf team finished in fourth place at the John Dallio Memorial tournament, hosted by DePaul University at the Ruffled Feathers Golf Club. NSU, which moved up from fifth place in the final round, ended 43 strokes back of tournament medalist and host DePaul University. "In all my years of coaching and being involved in tournament golf these were some of the most difficult conditions I have seen," said NSU head coach Kevin Marsh. "Winds blew 25-30 mph with gusts of 40 mph. Along with a very difficult course set-up the scores were very high but not indicative of the quality of play. We will get back and work on some weaknesses that were exposed and be ready for the strongest Regional field of the year at Columbus State next weekend.
Senior Byron White (Bradenton, Fla.) made the biggest move on the final day, improving nine spots to finish tied for 11th. White posted a 76 in the round, tying the lowest score among all NSU players. Senior Peter Kolosvary (Safety Harbor, Fla.) surged seven places to a tie for 15th place by also carding a final round 76. Junior Bobby Bode (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), who led the Sharks through the first two rounds, finished in a tie for 22nd place with an 82. Junior Jack Bartlett (Worthing, England) concluded play in a tie for 44th after an 84 while sophomore Ben Vertz (Coral Springs, Fla.) ended up in 65th with an 86.
Host DePaul (880) defeated the field by 18 strokes at 16-over par. Detroit (898) came in second and while Western Illinois (901) came in third place. NSU (923) finished six strokes ahead of George Washington (929) for fourth place. Georgetown (930), South Florida (930), Loyola (931), Wright State (935) and Drake (935) rounded out the top ten.
DePaul's Greg Doherty led all individuals at one-over par. He fired the low round of the tournament, opening with a 68 in the first round. DePaul's Paul Boucher and Detroit's David Byrne tied for second place at two-over par.
The Sharks will travel to Columbus, Ga. to participate in the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational, hosted by Columbus State on Monday, October 5th.
