Men's Cross Country's Matt Meagher Named All-SSC
Meagher one of six runners to earn All-Conference honors
Orlando, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2009) - Nova Southeastern University's men's cross country's Matt Meagher (Sr., Mansfield, Mass.) was among the six runners to earn a spot on the 2009 All-Sunshine State Conference Men's Cross Country Team, it was announced by the SSC on Wednesday. Meagher is the only runner not from Florida Southern or Florida Tech to earn All-SSC honors. He joins Florida Tech's Myles Garza and Vincent Poczekajlo and Florida Southern's Eric Larson, Ben Martucci, and Drew Martucci on the All-Conference Team.
Meagher ran NSU's top 8K time of the 2009 season. He clocked a career-best 25:57.97 at the Sunshine State Conference Championships, which placed sixth at the meet. That time was over a minute faster than his previous top 8K time of 27:02.40 ran at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic. Additionally, his 25:57.97 ranks third all-time on among NSU's top 8K times.
Meagher selected as the SSC Runner of the Week on Sept. 14 after he won the UCF Black & Gold Invitational with a time of 27:18.
Also announced on Wednesday were the SSC's Runner of the Year, Coach of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards. Ben Martucci, who is the SSC Championship individual race-winner, was named Runner of the Year. For the second-straight year, Jamie Moreno of Florida Southern was selected as the Coach of the Year. Florida Tech's Ross Russell was tabbed Freshman of the Year.
NSU's men's and women's cross country teams continue with the championship races this Saturday when the Sharks compete in the 2009 NCAA Division II Cross Country South Region Championships. Hosted by Tampa, the meet will take place at Sydney Dover Trails in Dover, Fla. The men's 10K is set for 8 a.m., while the women's 6K goes off at 9 a.m.
