Cheerleading Travels to Disney World for Championships
Team Places 7th in Division II
Orlando, Fla. (January 16-18, 2009 ) The NSU cheerleaders went through a series of events in order to qualify for, and attend, the college Cheerleading National Championship held at Walt Disney World's Wide World of Sports. In August, they attended a Spirit camp in New Haven Connecticut for a 4 day camp/competition. The team returned with 5 trophies, even winning the coveted "Leadership Award" and "College Camp Champ." The next step was sending in a video of the team's skills, followed by a video showing the team leading the University's crowd at various events and intercollegiate competitions. The score they received (14 out of a possible 15) was carried over to their performance at Nationals, where it was added to their performance score. The team qualified for the semifinal round based on the videos they sent in, bypassing the preliminary round. NSU's cheer team has competed at College Nationals for the past 5 years, but has never made it into the final round...until now. The Sharks name was announced and the team had 3 hours to make any improvements and/or changes to their 2 min 30 second routine. Changes were made and the routine was polished for their final round.
The team ended up placing 7th in Division II. Their performance can be viewed on Varsity.com as well as ESPN2 on Feb 22nd at 1:00pm, as well as all SHARKS home basketball games.
