Study Hall

Any student-athlete in their first semester at NSU (freshman or transfer), as well as any student-athlete with a Semester GPA below 2.5 from the previous semester, will be required to attend Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Study Hall. This program consists of 2 hours of supervised study per week. Study time will be determined and organized with the student-athlete and the Coordinator of Athletic Academic Services at the beginning of each semester. These hours will be a regular part of the student-athlete's weekly schedule, and will be monitored, the same as a class, for attendance. This study hall is to be attended in addition to any team study time student-athletes may be obligated to attend. There are consequences in place for missed hours, and excessive missed study hours will lead to suspension from athletic competition.

Consequences for Missed Study Hall Sessions:

  • 1st unexcused absence:
    Punishment at coach’s discretion
  • 2nd unexcused absence:
    Punishment at coach’s discretion
  • 3rd unexcused absence:
Mandatory departmental suspension – 10% of regular season, rounded up to whole games.
  • 4th unexcused absence and thereafter:
Meeting will be held with Head Coach, Coordinator of Athletic Academic Services, and Athletic Director to rectify the situation and determine further punishment.

(If suspension occurs out of season, it is carried over to the next regular season.)

* Achieving a Semester GPA of 2.50 or higher will release the student-athlete from study hall obligation the following semester.
