Student-Athlete Services
Academic Advising
The Coordinator of Athletic Academic Services monitors the progression of the student-athletes which includes acting as a facilitator between academic advisors and the NCAA Division II academic requirements. Prior to the start of each term, all student-athletes are required to see the Academic Advisor that has been assigned to them within their college of study in order to schedule classes for the following semester.
Study Hall
All freshmen and transfer student-athletes are required to attend mandatory study hall their first semester at NSU. If after the first semester the student-athlete has achieved a GPA of 2.5 or greater he/she will not be required to continue attending study hall. Coaches and the Coordinator of Athletic Academic Services have the discretion to place a student-athlete in study hall regardless of the above mentioned criteria.
Collegiate Success Program
The CSP program is designed to give academically “at risk” student-athletes extra support and focus. Participation in the Collegiate Success Program requires student athletes to:
- Attend two (2) study hall sessions per week (4 total hours)
- Attend weekly advising meetings with the Coordinator of Athletic Academic Services
- Receive weekly written progress reports from professors in order to track your academic progress throughout the semester
- Attend weekly tutoring sessions at NSU Academic Services
Academic Monitoring
The Coordinator of Athletic Academics monitors the academic progress of all student-athletes. Each semester, faculty are asked to complete Academic Progress Reports providing information about the student-athlete’s academic development in their course. The Coordinator of Athletic Academic Services will then make decisions on how to further assist the student-athlete according to information gained from the Academic Progress Reports.
Tutorial Referrals
The primary goal of tutorials is to provide student-athletes with academic assistance beyond what they receive in the classroom. If for any reason a student-athlete requires extra assistance, the Coordinator for Athletic Academic Services will provide them with a tutor upon request.
Specialty Services
