Challenging Athletes Minds for Personal Success
The mission of the NCAA is to maintain intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the campus educational program and the athlete as an integral part of the student body. With this in mind, the CHAMPS/Life Skills Program was created to support the student development initiatives of its member institutions and to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the university setting.
CHAMPS/Life Skills Programming
- Each team will be required to attend TWO (2) programs throughout the academic year. These programs will be coordinated by the NSU CHAMPS/Life Skills Coordinator. One additional presentation on drugs, alcohol, and tobacco will be conducted at the beginning of the academic year. This seminar is not to be included with educational seminar requirements. Your coaching staff chooses the topics for these programs. If you have any suggestions for topics, please relay them to your coaching staff.
- Attendance is MANDATORY for all student-athletes and coaching staff, no exception. CHAMPS/Life Skills Programs will not be held on game dates.
- The purpose of these programs is to supply student-athletes with relevant information in order to help them to make knowledgeable, thoughtful decisions.
The NSU CHAMPS/Life Skills Program strives to:
- Support efforts of every student-athlete toward intellectual development and graduation.
- Use athletics as preparation for success in life.
- Meet the changing needs of student-athletes.
- Promote respect for diversity among student-athletes.
- Assist student-athletes in building positive self-esteem.
- Encourage the development of leadership skills.
